Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information John 812 LLC ("BlueMarble," "we," "us," or "our") collects when you use the BlueMarble SAT-practice app and website (the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this Policy.
What we collect · How we use it · Sharing & sub-processors · Retention · Security · Your choices · Children · Changes · Contact
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run an SAT-practice service. Specifically:
Account information
- Email address and name. You provide these when you create an account. You can sign up with an email and password, with a sign-in link or one-time code we email you, with Google Sign-In, or with Sign in with Apple. When you use Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider so we can create and identify your account; we do not receive your password.
- Account type. Whether your account is a student account or a parent account.
Practice activity
- Your study data. As you use the Service we keep an append-only log of your practice activity — the questions you were shown, answered, or skipped, your answers and scores, and your practice sessions. We use this to run the diagnostic and practice engine and to compute your progress, accuracy, and streaks.
- Self-reported SAT scores. If you choose to record real or practice SAT scores in your score journal, we store what you enter so you can track your progress over time.
Friends and sharing (optional)
- Username and friends. If you choose a username and add friends, we store your username and your friend connections. Anyone who knows your username can look it up to send you a friend request, which shows them your name. Once you are friends, each of you can see the other's name, username, and place on a weekly leaderboard: XP, how many questions were answered and how many were correct, accuracy, and streak. Friends cannot see your individual answers or your scores.
- Sharing with a parent or tutor. If you choose to share your progress with someone, you give us that person's email address. We store it and email them an invitation. Once they accept, they can see your name and email address, your diagnostic report and estimated score, the SAT scores you have recorded, your overall statistics, and your practice sessions, including which questions you answered and whether you got them right. You can stop sharing at any time from your Account screen.
- If someone invites you. If a student enters your email address to share their progress with you, we use that address to send you the invitation and to connect the share to your account if you accept.
Notifications
- Push notification token. If you turn on push notifications, we store the device push token issued by Apple (via the Apple Push Notification service, "APNs") so we can send you practice reminders and, if you use friends, notifications about friend activity. If you never enable notifications, we do not collect this.
Technical & diagnostic data
- Basic technical data. Like any web service, our servers process standard request data (such as IP address and device/browser type) as needed to operate the Service and keep it secure.
- Crash reports (optional). If crash reporting is enabled, we use a third-party error-monitoring tool (Sentry) that may collect diagnostic details about a crash to help us fix bugs. This is used only for reliability, not advertising.
- Website analytics (website only). On our website we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site: which screens are viewed, the referring site or campaign, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP address, and whether a visit led to creating an account or signing in. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to tell visitors apart. We do not send Google your name, email address, or practice answers, and we have turned off Google's advertising features (Google signals and ad personalization). You can opt out with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site. The iOS app does not use Google Analytics.
- Advertising measurement (website only). We advertise BlueMarble on Google. If you reach our website by clicking one of our ads, the click identifier Google adds to the link is recorded by Google Analytics, and we report to our Google Ads account when such a visit leads to an account being created or a first diagnostic being started or completed. We use this only to see which of our ads work. We do not send Google your name, email address, or practice answers, and we do not use it to show you personalized ads.
- Fonts and math rendering. Our website loads fonts from Google Fonts and a math-rendering library from the jsDelivr content network. As with any web request, those services receive your IP address and browser type when your browser fetches the files.
Cookies and browser storage
- Sign-in cookie. When you sign in on the website we set a cookie that keeps you signed in. It is required for the Service to work.
- Analytics cookies (website only). Google Analytics sets cookies to tell visitors apart and, if you arrived from one of our ads, to remember that ad click.
- Local storage. Your browser also stores a few preferences on your device, such as your light or dark theme and a pending share invitation, so they survive a page reload.
We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, or payment card details, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
2. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Provide the diagnostic, practice questions, and score dashboard;
- Create and secure your account and keep you signed in;
- Compute your progress, accuracy, and streaks from your practice log;
- Send push reminders, notifications about friend activity if you use friends, and account-related emails you have asked for or that are necessary to operate the Service (for example, password-reset and sign-in emails, and share invitations sent at a user's request);
- Show your friends the weekly leaderboard, and show the people you share with your progress, when you choose to use those features;
- Understand how the product is used — first-party product analytics, such as funnel and retention metrics, and, on the website only, Google Analytics — to improve the Service;
- Measure whether our own advertising works (website only);
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs (if crash reporting is enabled);
- Protect the Service against fraud, abuse, and security threats, and comply with legal obligations.
What we do not do. We do not show third-party ads in the Service, we do not use your information to target ads to you or to build advertising profiles, the iOS app does not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
3. Sharing and sub-processors
We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers ("sub-processors") that help us run the Service, and only as needed for them to perform their function. As of the date above, these are:
- Railway — cloud hosting and database (stores your account and practice data).
- Resend — sends transactional emails (for example, sign-in and password-reset messages).
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — delivers push notifications if you enable them.
- Google and Apple — identity providers, if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple.
- Sentry — error and crash monitoring, if enabled.
- Google Analytics and Google Ads — website usage analytics and measuring our own ads (website only, with ad personalization turned off).
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr — deliver fonts and the math-rendering library to your browser on the website.
Other users, at your direction. Your friends, and the parents or tutors you choose to share with, see the information described under "Friends and sharing" above. We do not make your profile or activity public.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service. If we are ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
4. Data retention
We keep your account and practice data for as long as your account is active so the Service can show your progress over time. Your practice activity is stored in an append-only log, which we keep while your account exists. When you delete your account (see Your choices), we delete your associated personal data from our active systems. Residual copies may persist for a limited time in routine backups before they are overwritten, and we may retain limited records where we are legally required to.
5. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information — for example, encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls limiting who can reach production data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.
6. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account. You can delete your account and its associated data at any time from within the app: go to your Account screen and choose Delete account. This removes your personal data from our active systems as described in Retention. You can also email us to request deletion.
- Access and correction. You can view and update your name and email in the app. To request a copy of your data or a correction, contact us.
- Notifications. You can turn push notifications on or off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
- Friends and sharing. You can remove a friend, cancel an invitation, or stop sharing with a parent or tutor at any time in the app.
- Website analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.
- Regional rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR/UK GDPR or U.S. state privacy laws (for example, to access, correct, delete, or port your data, or to object to certain processing). To exercise any such right, contact us using the details below.
7. Children
BlueMarble is intended for SAT students who are 13 years of age or older. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the Service or provide us any information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, take additional steps to notify you where appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
